Presidents Report 2017 Our AGM was held on Sunday 22nd January at the home of Malcolm and Pamela Tyrie with fifteen members in attendance. Lunch was enjoyed after the meeting. The Clubs first two trials for 2017 were held on 25th and 26th March  at the home property on Ten Mile Road. Bob Boodnikoffs lab Onyx snared Novice both days. It was around June this year that we started to hear the pitter patter of little feet. First it was Marg Sullivan and then Paul Towning with Golden Retriever pups. Next it was Elio running around the paddock with a young GSP pup from Victoria. After that Trevor Davies and John Palu went over the edge to the dark side with black lab pups from Malcolm. This year the Wide Bay Cup Trials were held at Hobis’ farm, Walkers Road, South Bingera and were judged by Richard Carr from Geelong, Victoria. Many thanks to Ron Jackson for collecting Richard from the Gold Coast, bringing him to Bundaberg and then returning him after the Trials. It was Dom Colasimones young GSP R T Ch Jagacey Vyper who won this years Wide Bay Cup ably handled by Doms training companion Wendy Michalk. A very popular win on the day. Bob Boodnikoffs Onyx cleaned up with three Restricted wins, what a consistent performer. This weekend we had a clay target shoot and it was won by Craig Campbell. The Queensland State Retrieving Championship was hosted by our Club and judged by Paul Towning. Camping for the competitors was at Kirkwoods farm. The draw was held there on Friday night followed by an excellent meal for all those attending provided by Pamela Tyrie. The three runs on Saturday were held on a new property on the Wallaville – Goondoon Road nominated by Margaret Sullivan. Sundays three runs were held at Pipers farm, South Kolan. There were 20 starters in this Championship and six finishers. The winner, Richard Eaton Wells, was not a Club Member, but second, (Jake and Johnny) third, (Malcolm and Kit) and sixth placings,(Elio and Messi) were. A big thank you to all behind
Our last Trials for 2017 were on Saturday 30th September and Sunday 1st  October at Bev and Ashley Gilberts on Birthamba Road. Unfortunately we had insufficient entries for Novice and Restricted. Trevor Lodder judged All Age Stake both days and put on six interesting runs. Rocky Towning cleaned up both Trials. Monday being a Public Holiday, it was just as well we didn’t have a Trial scheduled because the drought broke and we received eleven inches of rain in daylight hours. Congratulations to our Members Mal Tyrie and Jake Christensen. Of the top ten placegetters on the Retrieving Australia Leaderboard, Mal took 5th and 9th placings while Kit and Emmi and Jake took out 6th placing with Johnny. I would like to thank the Executive and all members of the Club for their help and companionship throughout 2017, the fortieth year of Retrieving Trials in the Bundaberg district. Martin Walsh (President)
